Saints' Swim Team Improves to Seventh Place After Second Day of MAAC Championships

BALTIMORE, MD.. - The Siena Saints' swim team moved up the ladder to seventh place with 128 points Friday, in day-two of the 2006 MAAC Championships, held at Loyola College in Baltimore. The Green and Gold increased one spot, after placing eighth in the first of the three-day event, while the Rider Broncs continue to have a stranglehold on the first place position with 547 points.

Individually, senior co-captain Dana Golino earned 31 points for the Saints, finishing in fourth and third place in the 100-yard butterfly event with a time of 1:00.15 and the 100-yard backstroke event with a time of 1:00.91, respectively. Freshman, Melissa Nocera also helped the Saints improve their standings, finishing twenty-fourth in the 1000-yard freestyle event, clocking in a time of 11:45.23.

The Saints placed eighth in the 200-yard medley relay, as Golino, senior Shanna Allen, sophomore Megan Dobbbins and freshman Rachel McShane collectively paced the pool in a time of 1:57.48.

The Saints capped off the day's events with a ninth place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay. Sophomore, Jessica Cummings and the triumvirate of freshmen by the likes of Nocera, McShane, and Jeanine McCann registered a time of 8:49.60.

The concluding day of the MAAC Championships will begin Saturday at 10 a.m. and will run throughout the remainder of the afternoon.
