Siena Swimming will dive into the 2017 MAAC Championships on Wednesday in Buffalo, N.Y. The meet is being held at the Burt Flickinger Pool at Erie Community College on February 8-11.Siena finished fifth in the meet in 2016.
The Saints will compete against nine other women’s teams over the four day meet. The swimming portion of the meet opens on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Siena will compete in two relays Wednesday evening to open the Championships. The Saints are seeded fourth in the 800 freestyle relay, the final event of night one.
After the first day, there will be two sessions each day beginning at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. The meet will be live streamed through MAAC.TV, which can be accessed from the Championship Central link above. Live results and a digital program are also available on the page.
Three swimmers lead Siena with three top-ten seeds each. One-time MAAC Swimmer of the Week, Fiona Dretzka is seeded fifth in the 100 backstroke, sixth in the 200 backstroke, and ninth in the 200 IM.
Sophomore Emma Rupert’s times secured her the sixth seed in the 400 IM, the eighth spot in the 1000 freestyle, and the tenth spot in the 1650 freestyle. Freshman Larissa Nanna adds top ten seeds in the 200 breaststroke (sixth), 400 IM (seventh), and 100 breaststroke (ninth).
Junior Erica Askew and Sophomore Elizabeth Fournier are also seeded in the top ten for two events for the Saints. Askew has the second best time in the 200 breaststroke and the seventh best in the 100 breaststroke. Fournier possesses the sixth place seed in the 200 butterfly and the ninth place seed in the 100 butterfly.
