While most Siena students went home for winter break, Siena swimming and diving spent part of their vacation training in Florida. The sunny climate was perfect for intense training, and with the MAAC Championships coming up in mid-February, the timing was ideal as well.
"We were able to get worthwhile training in an Olympic size pool," said second-year head coach Paul Kueterman. "Success in swimming is built upon your conditioning, and this trip really allowed for great training."
The Saints went to the Plantation Aquatic Center in Plantation, Fla., and trained there from January 3-10. Kueterman also raved about how the team seemed to come together during the trip.
"Trips like these make for great team bonding," he said. "I felt like when we left Florida we were a strong, united squad."
Siena returns to the pool on Saturday afternoon at home against Saint Francis (Pa.). The meet doubles as the program's annual Senior Day, and the class of 2012 will be honored in a special pre-meet ceremony. With a win this weekend, that class would become the winningest one in program history, and the first group to record multiple 10-win seasons.
