Team Finishes Third at 2013 ECAC Championships

The Swimming and Diving team earned a third place at the 2013 ECAC Championships on Sunday afternoon. Siena finished with 949 points over the three day meet in Bronx, N.Y. after the Saints earned 14 top-10 finishes on the last day of competition.

"Really proud of the way the team swam this weekend," said coach Paul Kueterman. "They really came together and put together three great sessions."

The 200-yard Free relay team of Maggie Fletcher, Dana Tricarico, Amanda York and Shannon Love kicked off Sunday morning with a fourth place finish with a time of 1:39.78.

Led by freshmen Emily Hovey and Maggie Fletcher, Siena had great success in the 100-yard Back event with three Saints finishing inside the top-15. Hovey finished ninth with a time of 1:00.72. Fletcher finished two spots behind Hovey for an 11th place finish with a time of 1:01.11. Junior Katherine Canavan finished 12th in 1:01.55.

Hovey and Fletcher had multiple top-10 finishes on the day. As freshmen, they were unfazed by the spotlight of the ECAC Championships. Hovey would finish third in the 400-yard medley relay with the team of Helin, York and Love. Fletcher had continued individual success, finishing ninth in the 200-yard Free with a time of 1:57.16 and eighth in the 500-yard Free in 5:13.25.

Jacque Medina finished the weekend with five top-10 finishes. Medina continued her success on Sunday with a fourth place finish in the 200-yard Free with a time of 1:56.61. She would follow up with a third place finish in the distance swim, the 500-yard Free, finishing with a time of 5:08.09. Medina ended the day a part of the 400-yard Free relay team with Dana Tricarico, Maggie Fletcher and Shannon Love to finish fourth with a time of 3:37.50.

A day after winning the 200-yard Fly championship, Amanda York followed up with an eighth place finish in the 100-yard Fly with a tie of 59.90. York was also part of the third place 400-yard medley relay team (Hovey, Helin, Love).

Rounding out the rest of the top finishers for the Saints were Kelsey Helin, finishing fourth in the 100-yard Breast (1:07.17). Emily Carideo finished sixth in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:38.36 and a seventh place finish in the 500-yard Free (5:13.11). Dory Miller earned a top-10 finish in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:44.51. Shannon Love finished her weekend with a fourth place finish in the 50-yard Free.

The Saints enter the winter break and will be back in action after the new year on January 18 at C.W. Post. The Saints will be home again the following weekend to host Assumption on January 24 and Saint Francis on January 25.
