Seniors Kelly Pangburn and Martha Kroll each won twice as Siena closed its regular-season with a convincing 132-113 victory at Fairfield on Saturday afternoon. The Saints won eight of their last nine meets after dropping their season opener to Buffalo.
Pangburn picked up the first victory of the afternoon for Siena, capturing the 800 freestyle in 9:26.66. Classmate Olga Kandarouva finished second for the Saints. Kaitlin Krause picked up the second of four consecutive Siena wins edging out fellow freshman Dana Golino in the 200 ensuing 200 freestyle.
Kroll earned her first victory in the 50 free, sprinting past the competition in 27.94 and freshman Christi Hunter won the day's fifth event-swimming the 400-yard individual medley in 5:24.33.
Sophomore Leah Serbalik followed with her first of two second place finished off the springboard. Serbalik's initial score of 221.70 on the 1M platform was just 14 points shy of the winning score. Danielle Tardiff placed second in the 1M.
Kroll eventually got the Saints back on track with a two second victory in the 100 free. Freshman Shana Allen had one of her top showings of the season in the 100 free, placing third in 1:05.02.
Golino followed Kroll's triumph with a dominating performance in her top event-the 100 backstorke. Erica Strein placed in second for the victors.
Pangburn's second victory came in the 400 free as she raced past the competition in 4:34.31. Krause rounded out the Siena victors with a strong performance in the 100 breaststroke.
The Saints will next be in competition at the MAAC Championships on February 20-22 in Baltimore. Siena will be among the favorites as it attempts to capture its initial conference championship in just its fourth year of existence.
