Siena Swimming currently sits in fifth place after the first two events of the 2017 MAAC Championships. Marist ranks as the top women’s team after day one. During the meet, 14 Siena swimmers were named to the MAAC All-Academic Team.

The Saints opened the four-day meet with a sixth place finish (1:49.94) in the 200 medley relay. Fiona Dretzka, Erica Askew, Elizabeth Fournier, and Colleen McDonough competed for Siena in the opening event.

In the only other women’s event of the day, Siena came in fifth (7:55.95) in the 800 free relay. Maggie Fletcher, Katie Ludwicki, Fournier, ad Dretzka represented the Saints in the event.

In addition to the two races, the conference announced the 2017 MAAC Women’s Swimming and Diving All-Academic team Wednesday. Siena led all schools with 14 representatives. Seniors Fletcher, Emily Hovey, McDonough, Katie O’Rourke, and Caroline Powell; juniors Askew, Clare Bryar, Dretzka, Sinead Guy, and Brigid Wynne; and sophomores Fournier, Emma Rupert, Julianna Sebastian, and Francesca Tinucci were all recognized for holding a minimum 3.2 grade point average in at least two semesters at Siena.

The Saints will be back in the pool at 10 a.m. Thursday for the prelims of the 500 free, 200 IM, and 50 free. Siena will compete in the finals of those three events, plus the 200 free relay finals, in Thursday’s evening session beginning at 6 p.m.
