C.W. Post’s freshman Joyce Kwok set four new pool records to lead the Pioneers (4-1) over Siena 166-115 on Senior Day. Before the meet, the Saints honored the accomplishments of Kaela Bjornberg as she competed in her final meet at Siena Swim Center.
Siena (8-6-1) only managed two individual winners on the day, both coming in distance events. Megan Grace was the top finisher in the 1000 free with a career best time of 10:42.95.
Jacque Medina took the top place in the 500 free clocking in with a time 5:17.47, with Grace finishing in third with another career best (5:20.44).
The Saints were also helped by the diving of Hailey Beers and Kate Ackert. Beers finished 13-points shy of a pool record on the three-meter with a score of 255.35 and tallied 225.05 on the one-meter. Ackert, coming back from an injury, scored a 125.90 on the three-meter and 111.55 on the one.
Racing in her final competition ever at Siena Swim Center, Kaela Bjornberg had three top three finishes totaling 11 points for her team. She clocked in second in both the 100 breast (1:10.75) and 200 breast (2:31.89), while stopping third in the 100 fly (1:00.88).
The Pioneers won the first event of the day, breaking the pool record for the 200 medley relay in the process. The relay squad was led by Joyce Kwok, who would also break Siena Swim Center records in the 200 fly, 200 back, and the 100 fly.
Emily Carideo contributed eight points on the afternoon, finishing second in the 400 IM (4:48.21), third in the 200 free (2:00.23), and fifth in the 200 back (2:16.82).
Other notable finishes include: Amanda York touching in second in the 200 fly (2:15.07), Shannon Love enjoying a second place finish in the 50 free (24.90), freshman Valerie Zeffiro finishing third in the 100 back (1:03.30), Lauren Daly tallying third in the 100 breast (1:12.70), and Katherine Canavan placing third in the 200 back (2:15.73).
The Saints will conclude their regular season schedule January 26, when they travel to Saint Francis (Pa.). Siena will then participate in the MAAC Championships February 14-16, in Buffalo, N.Y.
