New softball head coach Bill Lajeunesse has already addressed one of his program's biggest deficiencies. Lajeunesse hired Abby Arceneaux as the program's first full time pitching coach.

Arceneaux coached at her alma mater Union College this past season after serving on the Cornell staff in 2009.

Arceneaux received her degree in psychology from Union in 2006, where she played softball all four years while receiving multiple league, ECAC and NCAA honors. She attained All-America status at the Division III level after ranking nationally in both pitching in hitting. Arceneaux was First Team All-Liberty League all four years and was named Player of the Year in 2004. She led the Dutchwomen to the NCAA tournament every season and was named to the NCAA All-Tournament team. A team captain her junior and senior seasons, she finished her senior campaign as the NCAA Division III toughest player to strikeout with no strikeouts in over 125 at bats. Her 65 hits that spring remain a Union record for hits in a season.

Arceneaux ended her career as the all-time Union career leader in wins (57), innings pitched (460), and strikeouts (463). She is third in hits (186), fifth in batting average (.411) and ninth in doubles (23).

She graduated from nearby Mechanicville High where she led the Red Raiders to three New York State Championships and was a two-time New York State Class "C" Player of the Year. Arceneaux has also been a pitching and hitting instructor at Warning Track Academy in Malta, N.Y. and at All-Stars Academy in Troy, N.Y.
