LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Baseball senior captain Vincent Citro and junior softball second baseman Stephanie Viggiano have been named Siena College's Leo Dufort Student Athletes of the Month representing May. The duo has excelled both on the field and in the classroom throughout their time at Siena College.

A native of Montclair, N.J., Citro was named the MAAC Tournament MVP after leading the baseball team to its first conference title in 15 years. The Saints' first baseman hit .700 (14-for-20) in five MAAC Tournament games and was named one of six players in Division I the following week as a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week.

At the Fort Worth Regional, Citro drove in the game-winning run with two outs in the bottom of the 10th as Siena beat Dallas Baptist for the first NCAA Tournament win in program history. Citro was named to the All-Regional Team after hitting a team-high .357 over the weekend.

Citro ends his career as the program's all-time leader in runs scored (162) and ranks third in hits with 248. This spring he became one of just five Saints in program history with an 80-hit season and led the Saints with a .335 batting average and 18 stolen bases batting out of the leadoff spot.

In the classroom, Citro completed his collegiate career with a 2.98 GPA, and has recently graduated with a B.S. in Marketing.

Stephanie Viggiano

A Second Team All-MAAC selection, Viggiano led the softball squad in hitting (.341), runs (32), hits (61) and doubles (13) in helping guide the Saints to a program-record 29 wins and first .500 or better finish since 1988.

Academically, the Seaford, N.Y. native was one of just 11 student athletes in District I named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team. A MAAC All-Academic Team selection, Viggiano currently possesses a 3.87 GPA while majoring in Accounting and is a member of Siena's 4.0 Club.

The Leo Dufort Student Athlete of the Month Award is presented nine times annually (September-May) throughout the academic year. The award recognizes exemplary achievements in both academics and athletics. The late Leo Dufort received a B.S. in marketing and management from Siena in August of 1977. His entire academic career was completed on a part-time basis beginning in the spring of 1961, as a married adult while at the same time raising five children. He passed away suddenly of a heart attack while cross country skiing in February of 1993. His wife Jeanine wanted to do something to immortalize his memory. The original plaque was donated to athletics and the department began the Leo Dufort Student Athlete of the Month Award to help carry out his legacy. Dufort graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1954, was a Navy Veteran (USS Bennington) who worked for JL Hammett Co. at the time of his death.
