Jones a Capital One Academic All-District First Team Selection
May 3, 2012
Chalk up another accolade for Siena softball's Shannon Jones. The junior received word Thursday that she was one of just 11 Division I players in the region to be named to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team. As a result, Jones is now eligible for Academic All-America consideration. One of just three juniors on the District 1 team, Jones has had a history-making season for Siena in 2012. She's broken the program's single-season records for home runs (13) and runs (41), and sits just one hit and five RBI away from the top totals in those categories as well with four regular-season games left on the schedule. Off the field, Jones carries a 3.43 cumulative GPA while majoring in Biology. She was a MAAC All-Academic Team selection in 2011, and was named Siena's Female Student Athlete of the Year at Tuesday's annual All-Sport Celebration. Jones now continues to the national ballot, and is eligible to make one of three Academic All-America teams. Those teams will be released on June 1.
