Siena softball’s Megan Volz has received her second collegiate accolade in as many days. The sophomore has been announced as the ECAC Division I Player of the Week. It is the second ECAC weekly award for the Saints this season.
Volz led the Saints with a .571 batting average (8-for-14) and drove in a team-high seven in Siena’s 3-1 week. Volz recorded a hit and scored a run in all four games. In the series against Manhattan, Volz recorded four hits including a three run home run while driving in five. Volz recorded multi-hit games in three of her contests, including scoring three times in both series. The catcher also stole a base and tallied a .625 on-base-percentage in the week.
Siena will play in their final home game of the 2013 season, when they host the Canisius Golden Griffins on Senior Day. The Saints are looking to clinch their first playoff appearance since 2003.
The ECAC is the largest athletic conference in the country, comprising schools that compete in 21 sports (17 men's and 18 women's). It has 317 member institutions in NCAA Divisions I, II, and III, ranging in location from Maine to North Carolina and west to Illinois. Most or all members belong to at least one other athletic conference.
