Catcher Hit .571 in Siena's 3-1 Week.
Megan Volz has been an integral piece this season
April 29, 2013
Siena softball sophomore Megan Volz was honored with her first career weekly award, earning the MAAC Player of the Week for her play in Siena’s 3-1 weekend. It is the second straight week Siena was honored with a weekly award, with Alyssa Lancaster’s Rookie of the Week last week. It is also the third weekly nomination for Siena this season.
Volz led the Saints with a .571 batting average (8-for-14) and drove in a team-high seven in Siena’s 3-1 week. Volz recorded a hit and scored a run in all four games. In the series against Manhattan, Volz recorded four hits including a three run home run while driving in five. Volz recorded multi-hit games in three of her contests, including scoring three times in both series. The catcher also stole a base and tallied a .625 on-base-percentage in the week.
The Saints are back in MAAC action on Saturday when they host Canisius College on Senior Day. Siena is looking to clinch their first conference playoff berth since 2003, which is also the only time the Saints have had a conference record over .500.
