Senior Shannon Jones, the reigning co-MAAC Player of the Year, has been named the Preseason MAAC Player of the Year by the league’s coaches.  As a squad, the Saints finished in a tie for third-place with Canisius.

Jones led the MAAC in several categories last year, including batting (.434), slugging percentage (.836), runs scored (46), hits (66), runs batted in (43), doubles (15), home runs (14) and total bases (127). In 50 games played last year for the Saints, she also fielded 152 putouts and assisted on 52 more for a .979 fielding percentage.

Siena finished last season with an 8-8 MAAC record for the second consecutive year, which ranked fifth in the conference.  Along with Jones, the Saints return junior pitcher Jessika - Jo Sandrini, who was also selected to the Preseason All-MAAC squad. 

Sandrini finished second on the squad in many major offensive categories, including batting (.403), home runs (13), runs (32), hits (58), and slugging (.771).

Fairfield was picked to finish first by the coaches with a total of 72 points.  Following right behind the Stags was Marist with 69 points.  Rest of the order was Canisius, tying with Siena with 61 points, then defending-champions Iona (41), Niagara (33), Manhattan (31), Rider (24), and Saint Peter’s (13).

Siena begins their season Feb. 23, at East Tennesse State.  The Saints are looking for their first playoff appearance since the 2002-03 season.
