Shannon Jones Named MAAC Preseason 'Field Player of the Year' by College Sports Madness

Senior shortstop Shannon Jones (Troy, N.Y.) has been named the MAAC Preseason "Field Player of the Year" by College Sports Madness.
Last year's MAAC Co-Player of the Year, Jones led the Saints in eight categories while leading the conference in six. Jones ranked first in the MAAC in almost every offensive category including homeruns (14), RBIs (43), and slugging percentage (.836).
She finished the season 13th in the country in batting average (.434) and was the 16th toughest batter to strike out in the nation.
The reigning Siena Female Athlete of the Year set program records in homeruns, hits (66), and runs (46).
Joining Jones on the College Sports Madness Preseason Team includes pitcher Jessika - Jo Sandrini who was named to the first team, while infielder Samantha Ray and outfielder Megan Volz were selected to the second team.
Siena finished with a conference record of 8-8 in 2012, and a 20-30 overall slate. The 2013 campaign begins when the Saints travel to Tennessee to take on East Tennessee State Feb. 23 at 1:00 p.m.
