LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - Rider qualified for next weekend's MAAC Tournament by handing Siena two losses in its final games this season. Rider won the first game 4-2 and the second 4-0. Sarah Rose's two-run homerun in the sixth inning of the first game provided all of the Saints offense on the day.
Rider (33-20, 11-5 MAAC) will be the #2 seed, and will play the third seed in the first round Friday. Fairfield (12-4 MAAC) is the top seed and will play the fourth seed. The official pairings and game times will be announced by the MAAC offices Monday.
In the second game, senior Courtney Weed broke a 0-0 tie with a three-run triple to right center as the Broncs scored all four of their runs in the fifth inning off Siena starter Tara Campbell. Weed went 2-for-3 in the game. Four Siena (14-33-1/5-11) players collected one hit in the nightcap, as Rider's Devin Karcesky picked up her seventh win of the season with a four hit shutout.
In the first game, sophomore pitcher Heather Beintema struck out 13 Saints and allowed just four hits for her 20th win of the season. Megan Woltz collected two hits for the Saints who also had just four base knocks in the opener.
Sophomore Jamie Farley hit an RBI single in first inning to give Rider a 2-0 lead. Senior Amanda Tu blastedt her team-high 10th home run of the season in the fourth inning to give Rider a 3-0 lead.
