Softball Falls Short 2-1 to Monmouth

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena softball came up just short 2-1 in its MAAC Tournament game against No. 5 Monmouth. Siena will face the loser of the No. 2 Fairfield/No.3 Iona matchup tomorrow at 2:00 p.m.

Stephanie Viggiano and Jessika-Jo Sandrini recorded the team's only three hits. Viggiano led the game off with a single to the left side and followed it up with another single to left field in her next at-bat.

Siena (28-25) put a run on the board with Sandrini's sharp RBI single just out of the reach of Monmouth's second baseman Kayleena Flores. Melanie Kalesse scored from second on Sandrini's single.



Sandrini tossed her 20th complete game, going the entire seven innings, giving up two runs on five hits with six walks, while striking out four.

Monmouth (22-19) got on the board in the top of the third inning, scoring both of its runs. Sandrini walked the bases loaded and Justene Reyes had the big 2-RBI hit to drive in Jill Freese and Nikki Sandelier.

Siena will play the loser of tomorrow's first game between No.2 Fairfield and No. 3 Iona. The first pitch is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
