Army West Point Sweeps Saints in Home Finale

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y- Siena Softball hosted Army West Point for an afternoon doubleheader on Thursday. The Black Knights triumphed over the Saints 11-1 in five innings in game one. In game two, Army West Point took the win 8-0 in six. Five Saints recorded one hit each in the doubleheader.

Game One: Army West Point 11, Siena 1 (5)

Army West Point (35-19) jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the first on a sacrifice bunt by Ashley Yoo. The Black Knights made it 6-0 over the Siena Saints (20-27, 13-5) with five more in the third. Lindsay Swafford brought in two runs in the frame. Freshman Brooke Hughes allowed six runs, three earned in her three-innings of work.

In the fourth, the Black Knights added five more. Katie Ontiveros doubled to bring home two and Sam Hartman homered in the inning off reliever Danielle Cacciola. Cacciola pitched the final two innings of the game, allowing five runs on six hits.

The Saints plated just one run in the bottom of the fourth on a sac fly by Amanda Dodson. Paige Hess, Madysen Cossack, Lauren Sabihon, and Jessika Jaime each had one hit for the Saints.The Black Knights took the game one victory 11-1 in five innings.

Game Two: Army West Point 8, Siena 0 (6)

In the second game, Kristen West was very strong for the Black Knights, allowing just one hit in six innings with no walks allowed. Jazmin Ortiz singled in the fourth for the only offense of the game for Siena.



The Black Knights scored two in the first, fifth, and sixth innings, along with one in the second and third to take the 8-0 win in six. Starter Lauren Butts allowed five hits and walked seven in the loss. Maddie McMahon pitched the final three and two-thirds, giving up three earned runs with four strikeouts.

The Saints will travel to Niagara University to take on the Purple Eagles to close out the regular season. Due to weather, the game has been moved to Monday, May 8 at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.
