The Siena College softball team (13-20 / 9-5 MAAC) will make its first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament appearance since the field was limited to four teams thanks to a 6-0 and 7-2 sweep of Niagara today.
In game one Siena took the lead in the third inning with two runs on an RBI double by Sarah Rose. The Saints would add another two in the fourth on another RBI double by Becky Brockman, and a third run in the inning on a passed ball to put them up 5-0. The Saints would get their final run of the game in the sixth for a final of 6-0.
In the nightcap the Saints took an early 3-0 lead on a three-run homerun by Sarah Rose in the first inning. They would add to their lead in the third with two runs on an RBI single by Carrie Getz that brought in two runs to make the score 5-0 in favor of the Saints. Niagara would climb back with two runs in the home half of the third inning on an RBI double. It would to be not enough on this afternoon as the Saints would add two more insurance runs in the fourth to make the final 7-2.
Siena will finish its regular-season schedule with a doubleheader against Canisius (14-30, 5-9 MAAC), who split earlier today with Marist, on Sunday. First pitch will be thrown at 11:00 a.m. Senior Christina Shiffman will be honored.
