LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Siena battled the rain and the windy in their final non-conference home game of the season in a 4-0 loss to the UAlbany Great Danes. Softball will now put their attention on the Marist Red Foxes on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
Siena couldn’t keep pace with the UAlbany offense as the Great Danes out hit the Saints 9-5 as UAlbany had the timely hitting and the Saints couldn’t convert, leaving five runners on base.
Freshman Mikayla Powlowsky led the Saints offensively with two singles. The highlight of the game was when Powlowsky outran the Great Danes defense on a single hit to first base in the fifth inning.
Chelsea Stout started in right field and collected two hits of her own. Stout singled in the third and again in the fifth. Stout was left on second base after both innings.
Alyssa Lancaster started in the circle, giving up two runs on six hits in 5.0 innings. Katie Casey relieved Lancaster in the fifth inning, giving up two runs on three hits. Lancaster reentered to finish the final inning.
UAlbany’s Maggie Cock and Caitlin Cooper each had two RBIs on two hits to account for all of the UAlbany runs as pitcher Mackenzie Thompson tossed a complete game shutout, giving up five hits and striking out three Saints.
Siena welcomes the Marist Red Foxes to town Thursday afternoon for a second place showdown. Marist and Siena are currently tied for second with a 10-4 record as they enter the final weekend of MAAC conference play. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
