Junior Carrie Getz singled home the game's only two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and Tara Campbell went the distance allowing just three hits in her first collegiate shutout as Siena (6-15/3-3 MAAC) bounced back from a 9-0 defeat in the first half of a doubleheader split with MAAC foe Fairfield (19-23/6-4 MAAC) to take the second game 2-0. Melissa Santos pitched a three-hit shutout in the five-inning opener for Fairfield.
Second baseman Megan Miller singled through the left side of the Siena infield in the third inning, plating Fairfield's two of Fairfield's runs in a three-run third in the opener. The Stags struck for six more in the fifth inning to put the game out of reach. Shannon Logan, Molly Harris and Tara Hansen all had run-scoring hits in the decisive frame, as Fairfield exploded for 13 hits in their five at bats. The eight-run rule was enforced, shortening the scheduled seven-inning contest to just five innings.
Siena responded in the nightcap, thanks to the efforts of freshman Tara Campbell. Campbell struck out 10 Fairfield batters and walked just one in earning her third victory of the season. Siena broke the ice in the fifth inning as Campbell followed a one-out walk with a looping single to centerfield. Both players came around to score on Getz' single, which kicked off the out-stretched reach of Fairfield's first baseman's glove down the right field line. Getz' average improved to .457 two hits on the afternoon.
