The Siena softball team (3-9) dropped an extra inning decision to Holy Cross (3-13) 4-3 Wednesday afternoon at Freshmen Field on the Holy Cross campus. The second game of the doubleheader was postponed due to rainy weather conditions.

The Saints struck first in the top of the second inning. With two outs, and two aboard, Tara Campbell singled to drive in two runs for Siena. The Crusaders came right back in the bottom of the inning. Freshman Nicole Dessingue reached on an error with one out. Next, sophomore Akemi Topel then grounded to shortshop, but Siena's Veronica Arredondo threw the ball into shallow right field trying to force out Dessingue at second base. Dessingue came all the way around to score and Topel moved over to second. Sophomore Michelle Greene singled, and classmate Mary Beth Ryan cleared the bases with a double to the wall in centerfield. HC held the 3-2 advantage until the fifth inning, when Sarah Rose singled in Carrie Getz and knotted the score at 3-3. Junior tri-captain Nicole Vitti was able to escape with only one run scoring. She received two clutch outs with runners on second and third to end the inning. The tie remained until the bottom of the eighth inning, when Topel drove in the winning run with a well-struck single to centerfield.

Vitti pitched all eight innings for the Crusaders and picked up her third win of the season. Vitti finished giving up four runs on seven hits and two strikeouts. Tisha Salamino picked up the loss for the Saints.
