Box Score

Oklahoma State’s Simone Freeman tossed a five inning complete game one hitter while striking out five Saints to snap Siena’s three game winning streak.  It was the first meeting ever between the two schools.

The Cowgirls (22-13) got to Siena starter Alyssa Lancaster early when Tiffany Mikkelson tripled into  center field to drive in two runs.  After recording the second out of the inning with a fielder’s choice, it looked like the Saints could get out of the inning, only surrendering three runs.  Gessenia DeLaCruz would smash a three-run homer to increase the lead to 6-0.  Oklahoma State would add one more run in the frame and not look back.

The Saints (5-8) had an early scoring opportunity in the top of the second when Jessika - Jo Sandrini was hit by a pitch and Lancaster walked to begin the inning.  Siena was not able to capitalize as the next three batters were retired.

Paige Lloyd recorded the lone hit for the Saints in the top of the fifth.  Siena would have the bases loaded with only one out, but Abby Carpenter grounded into a double play to preserve the shutout for Oklahoma State.

In the loss, Siena recorded three more errors and allowed seven more unearned runs.

The second game of the double header against New Mexico was postponed until tomorrow due to wind.  The Saints and the Lobos will play two, with the first contest starting a 1 p.m.
