Friday was a rough day for Siena softball. The Saints dropped to 6-8 on the 2012 season after two lopsided losses, falling 7-2 to Sacred Heart and 8-0 to Rhode Island.
The Saints fell behind early on against the Pioneers, but tied the game at 1 in the top of the third with an RBI single from Mandy Ferro. However, Sacred Heart scored three times in their half of the third before adding a run in the fifth and two in the sixth. Freshman Emily Potere had the other Siena RBI in the game, a base knock in the sixth that scored Shannon Jones.
Siena's defense betrayed them in the nightcap, as the Saints were charged with five errors. Pitcher Amanda Filippazzo gave up all eight runs, but just four were of the earned variety. The Green and Gold did record seven hits, including two each from Megan Volz and Samantha Ray, but left nine runners on base.
The Saints end their spring break trip on Saturday, with a 9:15 a.m. tilt against Robert Morris.
