For the second time in as many days, Siena softball split a pair of games on their spring break trip to Maryland. The Saints were shut out 4-0 by Seton Hall before the Siena offense came alive in a 13-2 rout of Coppin State.
The two games couldn't have been much more different for Siena (3-5). The Saints were held to just one hit against the Pirates, a sixth-inning single by Shannon Jones. With the exception of her base hit, Siena's offense consisted of four walks in the first three innings, ones that failed to lead to any support for pitcher Jessika - Jo Sandrini.
However, the Siena offense banged out 15 hits in the day's second game. The Saints jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first inning, a 7-0 lead after the second, and a 13-0 lead after the fourth. Coppin State scored two runs in the fifth, but it wasn't enough to keep the game going past that frame. Sandrini led the way with a 3-for-4, two-RBI, two-run performance, while Jones, Mandy Ferro, and Lauren Milligan each had two hits in the victory.
Siena has Monday off, but returns to the field Tuesday for a doubleheader at Maryland Eastern Shore.
