Final Stats

Maryland Eastern Shore won only their fourth game in two seasons as they defeated Siena 11-4 in the opening game of the Lady Pirates Classic held in Hampton, Va.  It is the first time the Saints have started 0-4 since 2010.

Siena (0-4) held the lead for the majority of the contest when Shannon Jones stole home for the first run of the game.

The Saints would build on their lead in the fourth with an Alyssa Lancaster two RBI double followed by a Melanie Kalesse run scoring single to give Siena a 4-0 lead.

The Hawks (4-8) would score the next 11 runs of the game culminating in a nine run fifth. Those nine runs would be scored on only five hits the biggest one was a bases clearing triple by Belen Benitez. All four of the wins from Maryland Eastern Shore since 2011 have come this season and all have been against MAAC teams. The Hawks went 0-31 last season, and ranked last in the country in RPI.

For Siena, Lancaster surrendered 10 runs, three earned in her four innings of work while Antonia Edwards allowed a run on two hits in her inning and two thirds.

Jones and Mandy Ferro were the only Saints to record multiple hit games, and each scored at least one run.

Siena is back in action tomorrow as they face both Delaware and Central Connecticut, with the first game starting at 8 a.m.

The Saints have not started 0-5 since 2008.
