UMass Cools off Saints
Moa Mattsson's goal in the 64th minute proved to be the difference as UMass defeated Siena Women's Soccer 1-0 Sunday afternoon in Amherst. The setback snapped a four-game winning streak for the Saints which concluded non-conference action with a 4-5 record.

Siena is 4-9-1 in season openers under now 15th year head coach Steve Karbowski and 5-8-1 in home openers. However, the Saints are an impressive 20-1-1 in non-conference home matches held here at Siena Field since 2007.

Siena and UMass meet for just the second time, with the Minutewomen capturing the inaugural meeting last season, 1-0 on Sept. 23 in Amherst. Moa Mattsson scored the decisive tally for UMass which finished last season with a 9-10-1 overall record including a 4-4-1 mark in the Atlantic-10. The Minutewomen are projected to finish fifth of 13 teams this season according to the A-10 Coaches' Poll.

The Saints are coming off a 2012 season in which the team posted a 6-11-1 overall record and finished tied for seventh in the MAAC with a 2-6-1 mark. Siena was predicted to finish sixth in the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll released Wednesday and senior captain Brittany Pfaff and junior back Anna Grant were named to the Preseason All-MAAC Team.
