LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena Women's Soccer Head Coach Steve Karbowski has revealed his program's 2012 schedule. The Saints will play a total of 18 regular season games this fall including eight home dates at Siena Field.
"We have put together one of the most challenging schedules in recent years," commented Karbowski. "The team will be tested every weekend during the non-conference season and after finishing last year's conference play with four consecutive overtime games, we are expecting all of the MAAC games to be very competitive matches."
Siena will play a total of nine non-conference matches and nine MAAC games this fall. Due to the unbalanced MAAC schedule, five of the Saints' conference games this season will be played on the road.
The Saints will be challenged early with eight of their first 12 games taking place on the road. The 2012 season commences on Friday, Aug. 24 when the Saints travel to Rhode Island for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
Siena will also face Rutgers on Aug. 26 in New Jersey to complete the opening weekend of the regular season. The home opener is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 2 at Siena Field when the Saints host Delaware at 4 p.m.
Other non-conference home dates include Central Connecticut (Sept. 14), Quinnipiac (Sept. 16) and Temple (Sept. 21). The Saints carry a five-year unbeaten streak in home non-conference games into this fall having gone an impressive 18-0-2 over that time.
Following their season-opening two-game road trip, Siena will also face Binghamton (Sept. 7), Vermont (Sept. 19) and UMass (Sept. 23) in non-conference road action. The non-conference finale against the Minutewomen kicks off a season long four-game road trip which includes the start of the MAAC slate.
Conference action begins Sept. 28 with a western New York swing against Niagara and concludes at Canisius (Sept. 30). The Saints will also face defending MAAC Champion Marist on Oct. 6 in Poughkeepsie to conclude the road trip.
Siena hosts its MAAC home opener on Friday, Oct. 12 vs. Iona at 4 p.m. The Saints will also play Fairfield (Oct. 14), Rider (Oct. 26) and Loyola (Oct. 28) in home conference action. The regular season finale against the Greyhounds will also serve as the program's Senior Day prior to the 1 p.m. kickoff. Since the start of the 2007 season, the Saints are an impressive 33-5-4 (.833) at home.
On the road, Siena will also face Saint Peter's (Oct. 19) and Manhattan (Oct. 21) in conference action.
The 2012 MAAC Women's Soccer Championships will take place Nov. 2-4 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field and be hosted by Marist College. The top-four finishers during the regular season will qualify for the tournament.
Siena finished 7-7-3 overall in 2011 and 2-4-3 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The Saints return four starters and 15 letterwinners and welcome nine newcomers to this year's squad.
