March 25, 2014

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena Women's Soccer Head Coach Steve Karbowski has announced rising seniors Taylor Booth, Anna Grant and Katie Zambrano as his captains for the upcoming season. Additionally, Karbowski released his program's spring schedule which kicks off this weekend.

"Taylor, Anna and Katie have displayed great leadership and passion to Siena College and the soccer program over the past three years," said Karbowski who recently completed his 15th season. "They will lead and represent a committed senior class and a focused team into the 2014 season. Each of them have proven themselves on the field and earned the respect or their teammates and coaching staff."

Booth has started 17 games each of the past two seasons in goal for the Saints. A native of Epping, N.H., last fall Booth broke the program record by registering four consecutive shutouts and posting a scoreless streak spanning more than 480 minutes.

A native of Stratham, N.H., Grant was a Second Team All-MAAC selection last season after starting all 21 games at center back. Grant, who played every minute of every game last fall, registered a career-high three assists while also being named to the MAAC All-Academic Team for a second straight season.

Also a two-time MAAC All-Academic Team selection, Zambrano started all 21 games at outside midfield in 2013 dishing out two assists. The Avon, Conn. native has appeared in 54 collegiate matches, scoring 10 points in 39 starts.

The tri-captains begin their leadership duties this weekend when the Saints open their spring schedule Friday at Hartford at 6 p.m. Siena also plays at UAlbany Sunday at noon and at Skidmore Apr. 12 at 10 a.m.

"We are looking forward to a competitive schedule over the next three weeks," added Karbowski. "The spring season provides a great opportunity to prepare for the fall. Some of our goals during the spring are to build confidence, create an identity and enforce good habits in a challenging environment without the pressure of immediate results."

On Apr. 6 the Saints travel to Army to play in a round robin with the host Black Knights, Sacred Heart, Wagner and Montclair State at beginning at 11 a.m. Siena concludes its spring schedule with a home match Sunday, Apr. 13 at 1 p.m. vs. LeMoyne.

The Saints posted an 11-9-1 overall record last fall and advanced to the semifinals of the MAAC Championships.
