Niagara University, NY (November 3) -- The Siena Women's Soccer team clinched a MAAC Tournament berth with a 2-0 shut-out victory over Niagara. WIth the win the Saints improve to 5-9-3 overall and 5-3-1 in the MAAC. The loss today eliminates the Purple Eagles from continuing on to post season play as they finish the season with a conference record of 4-5-0, and an overall record of 12-5-0.

In the first half of the game Niagara outshot Siena 15-8, and also had one corner kick. It was a scoreless first half, both teams playing a tight defensive system. The second half saw Siena open the scoring at the 52:16 mark off a goal mouth scramble, Colleen Smyth managed to find the back of the net. Less than ten minutes later Siena padded their 1-0 lead with a goal by Nicole Orlandella. These two Siena goals proved to be the only goals of the day.

Noel Cox made stop eight Niagara shots whil Katie Owings (Annapolis, MD/St Mary's) made seven saves for the Purple Eagles.

Third-seeded Siena will face second-seeded Loyola in the first round of the MAAC Tournament on Friday, November 8 at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Game-time is set for 1:00 p.m. Top-seeded Fairfield will play fourth-seeded Rider in the other semi-final match-up.
