Four different seniors scored to combine for five of the total seven goals as the Saints shut out Metro Atlantic Athletic opponent Saint Peter's College, 7-0, on Senior Day at Siena Field in Loudonville, N.Y. With the win the Saints playoff hopes are still alive as they await the outcome of the leagues other match-ups this afternoon. The Green and Gold improved to 9-71 overall and 5-3-1 in league play while the Peahens dropped to 2-17-1 on the season and 1-7-1 in the MAAC.
The Saints kicked off their scoring rampage with a goal just 11 minutes into the first half as Kristen Turner sent a through ball to Vicki Fenley who crossed it over to Erin Hutnick for the tally. Siena went on to score two more in the first half for a 3-0 score at the end of the first period. Hutnick set up Melissa Farrington for goal number two while Jill Lanzl played a part in Alicia Lackey's third score for the Saints.
The Saints opened up the second half with a goal courtesy of Erin Beam who received a ball for the tally from Lindsay McSharry just over five minutes into play. Sarah Shumway was credited with the Green and Gold's fifth goal just three minutes later as she broke away from the defense and slid it past Peahen keeper Angelina Albruzzese for the score. Lackey and Farrington each put away their second goal of the afternoon in the remaining minutes to give the Saints the 7-0 victory. Lackey's goal came at the 55:11 mark after McSharry fed her a through ball for her second assist of the game. Shumway collected an assist on the final goal on a cross to Farrington.
Siena keeper Krista Nordmark had one save for the Saints and Carey Winkler saw 24 minutes of action but did not record a save. Saint Peter's net minder Albruzzese made five stops for the Peahens.
