Senior Danielle Della Corna (Westlake Village, Calif.) served up two assists, both off of corner kicks, to lead the Fairfield University women's soccer team to victory over Siena College on Friday evening on Lessing Field. With the win, the Stags improve to 7-7-1 overall and 4-3-0 in the MAAC while the Saints fall to 6-7-1 overall and 2-3-1 in the league.
Fairfield wasted little time, getting on the board 1:40 into the game as Della Corna's first corner kick of the evening found the head of senior Lindsey Pulito (Kensington, Conn.) who beat Siena's keeper Noel Cox in the upper right hand corner.
Just over 26 minutes later, Della Corna got her second assist of the evening as senior Kelly Chapple (Trumbull, Conn.) headed Della Corna's corner into the right-hand side of the goal to give the Stags the 2-0 lead going into intermission.
In the second half Fairfield went up 3-0 as junior Meghan King's (Charlestown, Mass.) shot ricocheted off the cross bar to the foot of sophomore Shannon Helm (Cheshire, Conn.) who beat Cox down low. King was credited with the assist.
Cox, who was relieved by Krista Nordmark in the 75th minute, made seven saves while Nordmark made one as the Stags peppered the Saints with 18 total shots. Siena made four shots on the evening, forcing Fairfield keeper Katie Ely (Schnecksville, Pa.) to make two saves. The Stags also outcornered the Saints, 5-2.
The Saints will return to action on Sunday when they face Iona College. Game-time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
