Siena College's forward Kristen Turner scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 59th minute to lead the visiting Saints to a 2-0 victory over Canisius College in MAAC soccer action Sunday afternoon at the Demske Sports Complex. The Griffs fall to 1-9-0 overall, 0-3-0 in the MAAC while the Saints improves to 6-7-0, 3-1-0 in the MAAC.
After a scoreless first half, Siena broke the deadlock with a goal at the 58:57 mark on Turner's second goal of the year. Turner grabbed a loose ball and broke away from the Canisius defense and beat Canisius sophomore keeper Jenna Gage with a chip shot over the diving keeper. Siena added to their lead with a goal by Katie Ferry in the 66th minute. Amy Loughridge headed Corry Silon's free kick off the left post and Ferry corralled the loose ball and beat Gage for her first goal of the season. Silon lead the Saints with five shots, two on goal while sophomores Turner and Sarah Hopkins collected four shots (three on goal) each.
Siena out-shot the Griffs 23-8. Gage posted nine saves for Canisius; while Noel Cox posted one save in the shutout for Siena.
The Saints will return to action Friday, Oct. 15, as they travel to face Marist in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
