LOUDONVILLE, NY – Three different Saints scored as Siena Women’s Soccer snapped a four-match losing streak and secured its first league victory with a 3-1 triumph over Canisius at Siena Field. Sophomore back Hanna Longendyke was credited with the game-winning goal for Siena which has won eight of its past 10 home matches dating back to last season.

Senior captains Kelsey Horst and Michele Tremblay dished out a pair of assists apiece for the Saints (5-6, 1-3) which have won five of their last six against Canisius (5-5-1, 0-3-1). Tremblay has now totaled 16 assists for her career to move into a tie for eighth place in program history with Amy Loughridge ’08.

Siena held decided advantages in both shots (19-7) and corners (5-2), but had to play catch up early as the Golden Griffins scored just 66 seconds into the match. Maggie Canitia served in a corner which was headed down by Madeline Beaulieu and back tapped in by Gretta Dry to give Canisius the early advantage.

The Saints responded in the 28th minute when junior Gabby Albano finished a give-and-go with Horst for her team-leading fourth goal of the season. Siena then received a big boost with just 57.8 seconds remaining in the first half, when Longendyke put the Saints in front for good. Tremblay sent in a cross from the right which was redirected by Horst and finished by Longendyke by the far left post.

Siena completed the three-goal rally with an insurance tally from freshman striker Jayanna Monds in the 75th minute. Tremblay won a goal kick by the Golden Griffins and passed to senior midfielder Casey Scott who weaved through the defense and led in Monds unabated to score Siena’s third goal of the afternoon against a stingy Canisius defense which had allowed just nine goals all season over their first 10 matches entering play.

The Saints return to action Saturday when they travel to New Rochelle, New York for an early 11 a.m. kickoff at Iona. The match will be broadcast on ESPN3.
