Moa Mattsson's goal in the 64th minute proved to be the difference as UMass defeated Siena Women's Soccer 1-0 Sunday afternoon in Amherst. The setback snapped a four-game winning streak for the Saints which concluded non-conference action with a 4-5 record.
The Minutewomen's (5-5) Jess Howe put a service into the box to teammate Alyssa D'Arcy. She then fired a shot which was deflected by Mattsson into the goal.
UMass out-shot the Saints 14-12 and both teams took four corners in an evenly played match. Taylor Booth made three saves for the Saints, while Emily Cota stopped five shots to earn the shutout for the Minutewomen.
Caitlin Cahalan paced the offense with four shots for the Saints which were shutout for the third time this season.
Siena opens it conference season and continues its season long four-game road trip next weekend in Western New York. The Saints face Niagara in the MAAC opener Friday night at 7 p.m.
