Sophomore Megan Helf scored her first goal of the season this afternoon leading Siena College (3-5-0) to a 1-0 shutout over Temple University (2-4-0) in the third home game of the season.
The first half favored the Saints as Helf scored the lone goal in the 58th minute on a short inside pass from sophomore forward Kristen Turner. Helf gave the Saints the 1-0 lead when she fired from 18-yards out into the lower right side of the goal.
"I am pleased with the effort of the team today," Head Coach Steve Karbowski said. "We possessed the ball well and got the goal we needed. We still need to improve our finishing and play in the offensive third."
The second half remained scoreless as Siena had several opportunities to build on its lead, but could not break through. The Saints out-shot the Owls, 21-2.
Freshmen Amy Loughridge and Susie Blaisdell and Helf led Siena with four shots. Helf had two late second half breaks that landed wide. Temple's Kelly Lare and Kiana Johnson each recorded a shot on goal.
Saints goalkeeper Noel Cox collected her second shutout with two saves in goal. Jackie Mauro snagged 12 saves, including a diving stop off a Turner sprint to the net
The Saints return to the road Friday against St. Bonaventure at 3 p.m.
