LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The Saints are rolling. Brittany Pfaff's 11th minute goal was all that was needed as Siena defeated Temple 1-0 Friday afternoon at Siena Field. The win marked the program's fourth straight after opening the season 0-4.
Pfaff streaked down the right side of the field and fired a seemingly harmless shot on goal. But the Temple (2-6-2) keeper muffed the ball and it trickled past her for the decisive tally. The score was the Saints' (4-4) junior striker's second game-winning goal in the past three games and sixth of her career - moving her into a four-way tie for fifth all-time in program history.
Once again red-hot keeper Taylor Booth and her defense did the rest as one goal was all Siena needed for a third straight 1-0 decision. Booth made three saves in posting her third consecutive shutout and has stopped 22 shots while allowing just one goal during the team's winning streak.
Temple out-shot Siena 11-10 and the teams each took three corners as Siena defeated the Owls for the fourth time in a row. The squads also combined for 27 fouls and four yellow cards in a physical affair.
The Saints will look to make it five in a row Sunday when they conclude non-conference action and open a season long four-game road trip at UMass. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. and the game will be televised in parts of Western Massachusetts on CBS 3 Now (Comcast Channel 293 and Charter Channel 290).
