Siena Shuts Out Albany, 2-0
Sept. 21, 2003
Freshman Kristen Turner notched two goals for Siena to give the Saints a 2-0 shutout victory over the University at Albany on the final day of the Governor's Cup. With the win, the Green and Gold claimed third place in the tournament and improved to 3-4 on the season.
After a scoreless first half, the Saints managed to find the back of the net twice within forty seconds in the second period. Turner scored her first goal of the afternoon at the 74:18 mark off a ball by classmate Brandie Petrie. She put away the game for good with a goal just seconds later at the 74:58 mark off a cross by Erin DeMatteo to give the Saints a 2-0 lead and the eventual victory.
The Saints outshot the Great Danes 19-4.
Keeper Krista Nordmark made two saves in the net for the Saints, while Albany's Erika Van Zandt made seven stops in goal for the Great Danes.
The Green and Gold will have a week off, returning to action on Monday, September 29 when they face Holy Cross. Game-time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
