Women's Soccer Loses Overtime Heartbreaker
Sept. 10, 2002 LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Courtney Fritz scored off a corner kick just over a minute into overtime to lift Temple to a 2-1 victory over Siena Tuesday afternoon on the Siena campus. Trish Dalton lifted a corner kick into the box before confusion ensued. Fritz was able to put the ball past Siena goalie Noel Cox (Uniondale, N.Y./Uniondale) for the winning score. Temple (3-2) opened the scoring in the 33rd minute when Melissa Foley scored off a feed from Cameron Jennings. Siena (0-3-1) answered six minutes later when Katie Ferry (Islip, N.Y./Islip) scored her first career goal off a centering pass from Jill Lanzl (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire). The game was evenly played and Siena had several excellent scoring opportunities including an Erin Beam (Middletown, N.Y./Minisink) breakaway at the end of regulation. The Saints were unable to convert before falling in overtime. Temple outshot Siena 13-10. Cox made six saves for the Saints while Owls goalie Jackie Mauro made three stops for the victors.
