EDISON, N.J.-- Siena sophomore Michelle Eide and freshman Bethany Zimmer was named this week's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference as announced by the league today. Eide claimed the offensive player of the week, while Zimmer garnered defensive player of the week honor.
Eide (Pearl River, NY) is the Saints leading scorer with 19 goals and winning 15 draw controls, she is second on the team with assists (7). In the win against Holy Cross she scored the game-tying goal with 18 seconds remaining in the second half to force OT. Eide stuffed the stat line in the win with three ground balls and w inning two draw controls while causing four turnovers. Against Le Moyne, she took six shots, five were on goal, and two were good for goals.
Goalie Zimmer (Skaneateles, NY) earned her fourth win in the posts with two double OT wins. She protected the Saints nets putting in 132:00 minutes. She helped the Saints snap a 4-0 losing streak against 2004 MAAC Champion Le Moyne; in the two game win she only allowed 17 goals, while her teammates poured in 19. She has nabbed 88 saves (.478), while averaging 11.76 to her opponents 9.35 .spg. Zimmer is the only player as a freshman to start in the Saints net.
The Saints are currently ranked #1 in the MAAC with a 4-4 overall record, 1-0 league play.
Siena welcomes Sacred Heart on Tuesday, April 5 in a 7p.m. match-up at Union College.
