Julia Sirianni broke the MAAC record with 89 draw controls last season

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena Women's Lacrosse has been projected to finish sixth in the MAAC Preseason Poll according to the conference's nine head coaches. Junior midfielder Julia Sirianni was named to the Preseason All-MAAC Team.
Three-time defending MAAC Champion Canisius is the preseason favorite receiving 79 votes. Marist (67) was picked second, followed closely by Fairfield (64) and MAAC newcomer Monmouth (57). Iona was slated fifth (38), just ahead of the Saints (36). New MAAC member Quinnipiac (32), Niagara (17) and Manhattan (15) rounded out the poll.
Canisius' Maria Kotas and Tori Quinn were tabbed the MAAC Preseason Co-Players of the Year.
A local product from nearby Saratoga Springs, N.Y., Sirianni broke both the Siena and MAAC record for draw controls last season with 89. A Second Team All-MAAC and MAAC All-Tournament Team selection, Sirianni started all 16 games and ranked seventh nationally averaging 5.6 draw controls per game.
Led by first year head coach Melissa Pearsall, Siena returns eight of 12 starters from a team which posted a 4-12 overall record last season and finished 3-3 in the MAAC in qualifying for the four-team conference championships for a fourth consecutive season.
The Saints open their season next Tuesday against Bryant at 3 p.m. at Siena Turf Field.
