LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena Women's Lacrosse scored the first three goals and led throughout en route to a 12-9 Senior Day win over Niagara. Shannon Pfohl (four goals) and Alyssa Treanor (five points) both had career afternoons.
Siena (4-11, 3-3) out-shot Niagara (5-11, 1-5) 27-17 and held an equally decisive 17-6 edge in draw controls. Julia Sirianni, who ranks 10th nationally in draw controls, tallied seven more as the Saints won 12 of 13 second half draws.
Siena led 5-4 at the half as Niagara kept it close the entire way. Carrie-Jo Ferrugia capped a three-goal run that pulled the Purple Eagles back within 8-7 with 16:54 remaining.
But the Saints responded by scoring the next four goals to put away their fourth straight win over Niagara. Pfohl, who had scored just five goals all season entering the day, capped her scoring during the run. Treanor, who finished with a hat trick, figured in the scoring on three of the four goals.
Senior quad captain Katie Maguire added a hat trick for the Saints. Maguire enters next weekend's MAAC Championships red-hot, having tallied a point in 29 consecutive games and has posted multi-goal performances in seven of her past eight contests.
Four players scored two goals for Niagara which was led by Katherine Pille's three points.
Siena, which is set to make its fourth straight MAAC Tournament Appearance, enters postseason play following consecutive wins. The fourth seeded Saints face MAAC Regular Season Champion Canisius Friday at 4:30 p.m. on the campus of Marist College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
