Siena Women’s Lacrosse season came to an end on Wednesday evening as the Saints fell 19-6 to MAAC foe Marist. The Saints graduate three seniors in Cara McQuillan, Michelle Schwartz and Briana Sirianni.
Hailey Wagner led the Red Foxes (9-8, 5-3 MAAC) with five goals and two assists for seven points. She also recorded 11 draw controls. Natalie Bonaroti, Samantha Mehalick and Caroline Polymeros all added three goals a piece for Marist.
Freshman midfielder Alexis Deaken led the Saints (1-15, 0-8 MAAC) offense with three goals. She also recorded two ground balls, caused one turnover and had two draw controls. Schwartz, McQuillan and Laura Kesnig all added a goal each.
The Red Foxes opened up the scoring with Bonaroti’s goal for an early 1-0 lead. Just 22 seconds later, McQuillan put one on goal to tie the game. Schwartz put the Saints ahead with a free position goal for her 35th goal of the season. Marist tied the score 2-2 just moments before Alexis Deaken would record her 37th goal of the season and put Siena back out in front 3-2. Deaken followed that goal up with a free position goal to put the Saints up 4-2.
Marist put the next three shots on goal for a 5-4 lead with just under nine minutes in the first half. The Red Foxes held onto a 6-4 lead late in the first half before Kesnig took a free position shot and the Saints trailed just 6-5 heading into halftime.
The Red Foxes came into the second half red hot. The Saints trailed Marist 15-5 with just over 14 minutes left in the game. Deaken completed the hat-trick and scored her 39th goal of the season to put the Saints down 15-6. Marist continued to add to their lead and took the game 19-6.
