In a tightly contested battle, Siena Women’s Lacrosse would drop a conference matchup 18-13 to Monmouth. There were six ties and three lead changes between the conference foes.
Monmouth (6-10, 4-3 MAAC) was led by Alexa Smith who recorded six goals and three assists for nine points. Alex Stambaugh tallied a hat-trick and dished out two assists for five points. Monica Cortes had seven draw controls.
Michelle Schwartz led Siena (1-14, 0-7 MAAC) with six points coming off of three goals and three assists. Freshman Julia Sardella tallied four goals, while Alexis Deaken had three goals and one assist. Briana Sirianni had four draw controls in the contest.
Sardella opened up the scoring and gave the Saints an early 1-0 lead. Monmouth took the next two goals for a 2-1 lead with 26:24 left in the first half. Sirianni and Deaken then put up a goal a piece to put the Saints back in the lead. It would continue to be a back-and-forth contest between the conference foes. The half would end with Monmouth scoring with 34 seconds left to take a 9-8 lead. In the first half there would be five ties and three lead changes.
Monmouth opened the scoring quickly to begin the second half, but freshman Sardella and Deaken picked up back-to-back goals to tie the game up 10-10. The Hawks then scored five unanswered goals for the largest lead of the game 15-10. The Saints would put up three more goals before the time ran out, but Monmouth would do the same. Siena fell 18-13 to the Hawks.
Siena will travel to Poughkeepsie, New York for their final game of the season on Wednesday, Apr. 26 at 4 p.m.
