Senior Tracey Uellendahl scored five goals and had one assist to lead Central Connecticut State University to a 12-9 victory over Siena College in non-league women's lacrosse action today at Siena Field in Loudonville, N.Y. With the loss the Saints fall to 3-9 overall while the Blue Devils improve to 4-6.
Central Connecticut jumped out to a two-goal lead before Siena got on the board at the 23-minute mark on a tally by Dana Sherrer. The Blue Devils responded, scoring three unanswered goals to take a 5-1 lead with 17:22 remaining in the first half. Siena went on to put away one more while Central Connecticut found the back of the net two additional times for a 7-2 halftime score in favor of the Blue Devils.
Central Connecticut kicked off the scoring in the second, increasing their lead to six on a goal by Amy Clark at the 26:16 mark. The Saints cut the lead back down to four on a pair of goals courtesy of junior Stephanie Petruccelli and sophomore Caitlin Doherty, but the Blue Devils again managed to build back a substantial lead, this time going ahead by seven on a pair of goals by Clark and a tally by Uellendahl. During the final thirteen minutes of the game, the Saints made a run at the Blue Devils, putting away five goals while holding Central Connecticut to just one. But Siena ran out of time and the Blue Devils walked away with the 12-9 victory.
Petruccelli led the Saints with four goals while Sherrer added three on the afternoon.
The attacking pair of Clark and Uellendahl combined for nine of Central Connecticut's 12 goals and recorded all of the team's four assists.
Siena keeper Mary-Elizabeth Dupelle made and Central Connecticut's Kristen Elliott each made ten saves in the net for their respective teams.
The Saints will play their final home game of the season this Thursday when they host MAAC opponent Le Moyne.
