Quinnipiac Slips Past Saints

Final Stats

After a hard fought battle, Quinnipiac was able to come away with an 11-10 victory over Siena Women’s Lacrosse. The contest had five ties and two lead changes.

Allison Kuhn led Quinnipiac (4-11, 3-4 MAAC) with three goals and three assists for six points. Alex Helsciak scored two goals, while six other Bobcats scored one goal a piece. Kyle Larkin made 13 saves in the cage.

Alexis Deaken led Siena (1-13, 0-6 MAAC) with four goals, while Michelle Schwartz tallied two goals and dished out four assists for six points. Cara McQuillan also scored two goals for the Saints.

Quinnipiac got the scoring started, but the Saints fought back quick. Siena scored the next three goals to take a 3-1 lead over the Bobcats with just over 15 minutes remaining in the first half. The Bobcats added a goal before Briana Sirianni came in and helped keep the Saints in front 4-2. Quinnipiac would tie it up 4-4, but senior Cara McQuillan put one in the cage with just 36 seconds left for a 5-4 Siena lead at the half.

Alexis Deaken picked up her second goal of the game in the opening minutes of the second half for a 6-4 Siena lead. Quinnipiac would tie the contest again 6-6. It would be Deaken again who would put the Saints back in the lead. The Bobcats than scored the next three goals to take their second lead of the game 9-7 with just over 19 minutes left to play. Goals from Laura Kesnig and Deaken would tie the game fifth time at 9-9.

 

 

Quinnipiac was able to get two in goal for a 11-9 lead with 7:40 left in the game. The Bobcats held off the Saints for as long as they could but with just 28 seconds left, Schwartz scored on a free position shot and put the Saints down just 11-10. They would not be able to take the lead and Quinnipiac would take the win 11-10.

The Saints outshot the Bobcats 31-28 and also won 13 of the 23 draw controls. Sirianni recorded six draw controls and picked up a team-high three ground balls.

Siena continued their three-game road trip as they travel to West Long Branch, New Jersey to take on Monmouth on Saturday, Apr. 22. First draw is set for 1 p.m.
