Freshman Michelle Eide scored five goals to help lift the Siena College women's lacrosse team to their first MAAC win of the season with a 10-7 win over Marist College this afternoon at Siena Field in Loudonville, N.Y. With the win, the Saints ended an eight -game losing streak and improved to 3-10 overall and 1-1 in league play while the Red Foxes dropped to 3-7 on the season and 0-1 in the conference.
Marist got on the board first at the 27:25 mark on a free position shot by Lauren Serge before Michelle Eide scored back-to-back tallies for the Saints, giving them a 2-1 lead with 20:17 left on the clock. The Red Foxes went on to put away two more goals, courtesy of Christine Connell and Katie Tutak before Eide put away her third of five goals on the afternoon to even it up at three a piece.
Claire Devine gave the Green and Gold back a one-point advantage with a goal at the 8:30 mark. Marist again responded with a pair of tallies as Connell found the back of the net again and Lauren Sherman gave the Red Foxes the go-ahead goal with 41 seconds to play, but Eide once again came through for the Saints, netting one with just 12 ticks left on the clock to knot the score at 5-5 at the half.
Siena was the first to put points up on the board in the second as Stephanie Petruccelli netted one just two minutes in, giving Siena the 6-5 advantage. But just like they had twice before, Marist responded with another pair of goals to take another one-goal lead at 7-6 with 18:31 to play.
It was all Green and Gold from then on out as Siena scored four more second-half goals to seal the 10-7 victory. Petruccelli notched two tallies over that time span, while Eide put away her fifth and final goal and Christina Pampalone netted her first of the afternoon.
The Saints outshot the Red Foxes, 31-18 and pulled in 16 draw controls compared to just three for Marist.
Petruccelli and Devine joined Eide with multiple-point outings as Petruccelli finished with three goals and Devine had one goal and one assist.
Connell and Taylor Conger led Marist with two goals each.
Keeper Mary-Elizabeth Dupelle made eight saves in the net for the Saints while Heather Ripp had 15 stops for Marist.
The Saints will return to action this Saturday, April 17 when they host Manhattan College. Game-time is set for 1:00 p.m.
