LOUDONVILLE, NY - Siena Women’s Lacrosse fell 15-9 in a midweek MAAC contest to Niagara at Siena Turf Field. The Purple Eagles outshot the Saints 41-27 in the game.
Rachel MacCheyne tallied five points for Niagara (6-7, 3-1 MAAC) coming off a team-high four goals and one assist. Caroline Crump recorded a hat-trick and scored the first three goals for the Purple Eagles. Crump also dished out one assist.
Crump got the scoring started and put up the first two goals of the game as Niagara jumped out to an early 2-0 lead. Schwartz put her first goal of the game in the net to cut the deficit back to just 2-1. Crump then tallied her hat trick with her third goal of the game. That would not deter the Saints as senior midfielder Sirianni took control and the Saints then trailed 3-2.
The Purple Eagles would then score five unanswered goals for a 8-2 lead with just under five minutes left in the half. Schwartz and Deaken added a goal a piece to put the Saints down just 8-4 at the half.
Niagara came out swinging in the second half and scored the first three goals of the stanza for an 11-4 lead. Deaken would score the next four goals for the Saints, two from a free position shot. The Saints trailed Niagara 13-7 with just under 12:30 left in the contest. After that the Saints and Purple Eagles would exchange two goals a piece, including a goal from Kesnig, the first of her collegiate career. Niagara would take the contest 15-9.
The Purple Eagles took 20 of the 26 draw controls. Sammy Horton recorded 17 saves in the contest, 15 of those saves coming in the first half alone.
The Saints remain in the Capital District as they host Manhattan for their final home contest of the season on Saturday, Apr. 15. First draw is set for 12 p.m.
