Vermont's Vanessa Cox (Newton, Mass.) tied a school record with eight points, scoring seven goals as the Catamount women's lacrosse team defeated Siena, 16-6, Thursday at Middlebury's Kohn Field.
Cox, among the America East leaders in goals, scored three times in
the first half as Vermont, 2-3 overall, ran out to a 6-4 lead. The
Catamounts then poured it on in the second half, with Cox scoring twice in
the first six minutes and then adding two more later in the half to finish
with seven goals, one off the school record of eight held by UVM Hall of
Famer Lyn Jordan '85. Cox also assisted on Sara Talbot's first-half goal to
give her eight points, tying the school mark.
Junior co-captain Sarah Booker (Lexington, Mass.) scored three
goals for the Cats, while Talbot, a sophomore from Williston, Vt., had two.
Siena, 2-6 overall, got two goals each from Caitlin Doherty and
In goal, Vermont's Kate McBride (Canton, Mass.) recorded six saves, while
Mary-Elizabeth Dupelle stopped nine for the Saints.
The Saints return to MAAC action this Sunday as they travel to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. to face conference foe Niagara University. Game-time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
