With 17 goals scored in the first half, Canisius propelled their way to a 25-11 victory over Siena Women’s Lacrosse on Wednesday evening. The Saints are now 6-15 overall against the Golden Griffs.
Attack Tessa Chad led all scorers with six goals and one assist for Canisius (8-4, 3-0 MAAC). Midfielder Erica Evans recorded five goals and two assists. Her fifth goal placed her as the All-Time leading scorer for the Golden Griffs.
Freshman Alexis Deaken recorded four goals for the Saints (1-9, 0-2 MAAC) and tallied four draw controls. Michelle Schwartz also put four in the cage for Siena. Brianna Sirianni notched a team-high five draw controls.
Canisius struck first in the contest, but the Saints were right behind and it was an early 1-1 tie game. The Golden Griffs then scored six unanswered goals to take a 7-1 lead with just under 18 minutes left in the first half. The Saints continued to fight back and scored seven goals in the first half, but Canisius would lead 17-7 at the half.
Siena would win six of the seven draw controls in the second half to help guide the Saints to a powerful offense. The Saints scored eight out of 10 of their free position shots, while Sammy Horton recorded five saves on all five free position shots of the Golden Griffs. While the Saints recorded four goals in the final stanza, the Golden Griffs scored eight and took the MAAC matchup 25-11.
The Saints host Iona at Siena Turf Field for both Senior Day and Alumni Day on Saturday, Apr. 8. First draw is set for 12 p.m.
