LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Fairfield took 19 shots in the first half and scored on 14 of them as they went on to defeat Siena 17-8 in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women's lacrosse game Sunday afternoon at Siena Turf Field. Siena honored senior captains Lindsey Rosecrans, Ryan Tierney and Courtney Highsmith in a pre-game ceremony.

Fairfield (10-2, 4-0) scored less than a minute into the game on Erin Rigby's free position shot. It foreshadowed the rest of the game as the Stags scored on their first 14 shots they put on goal and scored on 6-of-7 free position shots.

Siena's (6-5, 0-4) Caitlin Mikel cut the deficit to 2-1 when she came across the front of the eight meter arc and fired a shot past Lauren Chatnik at the 28:26 mark. The Stags and Saints traded goals by Kristen Coleman and Courtney Highsmith to make it 3-2, but Fairfield ran away with it after that point. They scored the next 10 goals in just under 20 minutes until Highsmith slowed the stampede with a goal at the 6:17 mark. She led the Saints with three goals.

Fairfield led 14-3 at the half.

Siena outscored Fairfield 5-3 in the second half, but four of those goals came in the final 10 minutes when the game was out of reach.

Lindsey Rosecrans didn't record a point for the first time since April 18, 2008 when Siena lost to Marist 15-8. After returning to the field from a yellow card in the first half, she left almost immediately due to injury. She returned in the second half, only to pick up another yellow card. She finished with one shot on goal and three draw controls.

Chatnik earned the win with eight saves and gave up five goals before Kelley Brady came in to finish the final five minutes of the game. Liz Peters made six saves in her first start of the season.

Freshman Deirdre McQuillan scored two goals and had two assists and sophomore Caitlin Mikel had two goals and one assist. Sophomore Erin Hepper caused three turnovers.

Seven different Fairfield players had multi-point games.

Siena returns to action Tuesday evening when they play UAlbany in Albany, N.Y. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
